“The AI hallucinated” is the new
“the dog ate my homework”
And yes, obviously AI gets things wrong sometimes, and more often than you'd like.
But I've also seen spreadsheets from hell: broken formulas, duplicate columns, endless versions, and data pasted in by hand because the systems don't talk to each other. (My chronic obsession with fixing data has had me digging until I found the one tiny number someone mistyped back in the Stone Age.)
And then everyone expects AI to work magic on top of that. Buuut that's not really how it works. AI makes mistakes, a lot of them, especially with data. That's why you have to be organized, know what you're doing, give it context, set parameters, and check!! For the love of God, CHECK!
Then they blame the algorithm...
...while there's still a file open called:
“FINAL_FINAL_THIS_ONE_v2”.
I think using AI well has less to do with perfect prompts and a lot more to do with something way less sexy:
having the judgment to check what information we're actually giving it.
Because AI learns fast.
Even from our mess
